Yacht Transportation Requirements

Before we transport your yacht, we need the following information from you:

Full Dimensions: Height, Weight, Length, and Width.

Pickup and Delivery Addresses: Complete address details for both locations.

Once we have this information, we’ll recommend the appropriate equipment and hauling specifications. We will also assess the prevailing weather conditions and plan accordingly.

Our team will also determine the necessary permits and other state-specific requirements. If you have any questions, our Marine Transport Agent is available to assist and provide peace of mind throughout the process.

Choosing the Right Transport Method to Ship Your Yacht

Air Yacht Transportation:

For urgent or exclusive shipments, air transport using a cargo plane or helicopter offers speed and enhanced security. However, it’s a costly option due to specialized equipment and handling needs.

Land Yacht Hauling:

Flatbed trucks are ideal for smaller yachts with a beam of less than 12 feet and a weight under 10,100 pounds. For larger yachts, special trailers are used to transport yachts with a beam up to 24 feet and a weight of 220,000 pounds. This is a cost-effective and flexible method compared to other shipping options, as it doesn’t require a port or crane for loading and unloading.

Water Yacht Transport:

Water transport is perfect for longer distances and international shipments. Choose between:

Containerized Transport: The yacht is placed inside a container and loaded onto a cargo ship.

Ro-Ro (Roll-on Roll-off): The yacht is driven onto a specialized vessel with ramps and cranes for easy loading and unloading.

Pricing Is Determined by These Factors and Variables:

Do you need a trailer, or will we provide one? If you have one, what type is it?

Boat Dimensions: Length (LOA), Beam (width), Height (including draft), and Weight.

Does your vessel require a cradle, or will the hull configuration fit the trailer?

Marina Lift: Is one available for pickup and drop-off?

Wet Pickup and Wet (SPLASH) Delivery: Does your boat require this service? (Yachts excluded.)

Is your boat or yacht oversized?

Will it need D.O.T. Certified Escorts? (One or two?)

Do you need a D.O.T. Route Survey?

What will the permit costs be for oversized loads from state to state, based on D.O.T. regulations?

Driving Time: Oversized loads can only be driven during certain hours and days of the week.

Marina Lift Schedules: What are the operating hours and days for lift services at the marina? Do we need to follow an appointment schedule?

Best Way to Transport a Yacht Internationally

International yacht transportation requires careful planning, from booking the right shipment timeline to coordinating transportation with the sailing schedule. Some methods for international yacht transport include:

Roll on/Roll off (Ro/Ro): A trailer or cradle is used to roll the yacht onto a specialized vessel.

Lift on/Lift off (Lo/Lo): Larger boats need a crane to be lifted onto the vessel if they can’t roll on.

Shipping Container: For vessels compatible with standard shipping containers, this can offer a more cost-effective solution for smaller boats.

Shipping on Flat Racks: Used for boats with varying shapes or sizes, the boat is placed in a specially designed cradle and secured on a flat rack on a cargo vessel.
